Summer is here and skin is in! There are two solid options to take advantage of the warm weather with this trend; if you’re more of a free spirit, go bare with crop tops and strapless dresses, or if you’re more conservative choose styles with sheer details. This trend may be specific to summer, but you can always count on it coming back every year, so go ahead, stock up on those off-the-shoulder (Reformation) dresses!
One of my favorite L.A.-based brands, Reformation never fails to produce the most stunningly simple designs. This off-the-shoulder silhouette is all over their website, and soon it will be all over the streets too. It’s so perfect for spring and summer, embodying the skin-baring spirit that the warm weather affords us after a long winter hibernation. Embrace the tasteful trend this season for a sexy little spring in your step.
It’s simple. It’s stylish. It’s denim. The often overlooked fabric is reinventing itself this Spring, appearing in all shapes and silhouettes. The playful take on the utilitarian fabric allows denim clothing to maintain its practicality while still being stylish. Not to mention the automatic 70s glam it lends to an everyday outfit, denim gives us that effortless chicness we all crave.Image via Nordstrom
On those unbearably hot summer days in D.C., I opt for my shapeless H&M dress and Havaianas. Why would I bother sweating through any of my nice clothes in the sticky East Coast humidity? I may obsess about my clothes on most occasions, but you’ll never hear me say “beauty is pain.” One thing I fully support, however, is being effortlessly chic. You may have heard this term from various fashion gurus such as Rachel Zoe or Nina Garcia, adding to the fancy factor. But don’t be intimidated, all it means is looking like you woke up like this. It’s okay if you didn’t–it was just one of those days for me yesterday, but when you’re in Paris you kinda have to try. Follow my cheat sheet to go from plain to posh:
1 Leather Sandal: Ditch your rubber flip-flops for a simple leather sandal. If you’re feeling lazy like me, get a pair that slips right on, like these ones at J Crew:
2 Cotton Dress: A loose-fitting dress will not only flatter your figure, it will also be as cozy as your pajamas. Don’t get anything too nice that you’ll worry about ruining, but do try something with a print. This Joie dress is both comfy and chic. A go-to dress like this is priceless on those steamy summer days.
3 Oversized Sunglasses: To add instant glam, throw on some big sunglasses. If you’re not a huge fan of wearing jewelry like me, oversized sunnies are a great substitute accessory on lazy days. For a designer pair, Tom Ford has the most classic oversized options, but you can always find a glamorous pair at H&M for much less.
Just grab your cross-body and you’re good to go! Holding a purse or fumbling to have it stay on your shoulder is so overrated on a hot summer day.
